Each year the Town Council invites nominations for two community awards.
The ‘David Britton Citizen of the Year Award’ is for both young people
and adults and covers people living outside the town as well as residents, although
they must have provided a service valued by people in Ivybridge.
The ‘Nick Cummins Community Group of the Year
Award’ is for those groups who have provided an invaluable input into the town.
These awards are named after two individuals who really did go above and beyond to make our town a better place for the local community.
The award winners receive an engraved shield, a framed certificate and a gift
to the value of £50 which is presented by the Mayor.
The 2023 awards are now open!
The awards are open to individuals and groups who volunteer
within the community and as in previous years the award does cover people
living outside the town although they must have provided a service valued by
people in Ivybridge.
If you know of any person or group you feel deserves to be
nominated please write to Ivybridge Town Council, Erme Court, Leonards Road,
Ivybridge, PL21 0SZ, or email the information to [email protected] giving
full details of name/group, their address and the reasons why they should be
put forward to receive such an award and also include your own name and
address. Please provide as much information as possible as this will help the
Council to make their decision.
The nominations will be considered by the Town Council and the
winners will receive their award from the Town Mayor at the Annual Town Meeting
in 2024.
All nominations must be received by midday on 23 February 2024.
Previous Winners
In 2022 the Citizen of the Year award was presented to Andy Edmonds in
recognition of all the amazing voluntary work he is involved in, training
many people in the community to carry out CPR and use defibrillators,
volunteering his skills for no charge and potentially saving lives by this
training.
The Community Group of the Year was awarded to the volunteers
and coordinators of Ivybridge Brewing in recognition of the service they provide to the community. It is an absolute pleasure to hear how the team
has blossomed since joining Ivybridge Brewing, learning skills, gaining
confidence, improving their self esteem and demonstrating their positive
contribution in the local community.
The 2021 Community Group of the Year awards were split between Ivybridge Foodbank for helping vulnerable families in the community and So Social for providing a lifeline to those who are lonely and isolated.
Rosa Hansen and Malcolm Smith received the Citizen of the Year award for their work looking after Harry's Patch, litter picking and manning the Poppy Shop.
