The Town Council is a consultee in the planning process and meets to discuss the Town Council’s response to planning applications. The Committee's recommendations are then submitted to the District Council as the local planning authority. Overall the Committee aims to promote sustainable development in the town. Meetings of this Committee include a public participation session. This Committee also supports the interests of public transport users.

What is Neighbourhood Planning?

The Localism Act 2011 introduced statutory Neighbourhood Planning in England. It enables communities to draw up a Neighbourhood Plan for their area and is intended to give communities more of a say in the development of their local area (within certain limits and parameters). These plans are used to decide the future of the places where you live and work giving opportunities to:

  • choose where you want new homes, shops and offices to be built
  • have your say on what new buildings should look like
  • grant planning permission for the new buildings you want to see go ahead.

The Final Ivybridge Neighbourhood Plan was adopted in December 2017.

Ivybridge's Neighbourhood plan documents below show the various stages before the final stage was reached for the plan to be adopted.

Published alongside the draft plan are a draft sustainability appraisal scoping report, a draft schedule of evidence that has helped to inform the plan, an early draft of the statement of consultation setting out how the community has been engaged in plan-making, and a draft statement explaining how the plan meets the basic conditions set by government
